A recent trip to Portland, OR made me wish Spokane was more vegan friendly! It is so nice to be able to go out to lunch/dinner and not have to alter items or ask details about the cooking process. It should ALWAYS be this easy!!
Of the many choices in Portland, Vita Cafe was recently enjoyed.
Vita Cafe is located in the heart of Portland’s Alberta Street restaurant district. Vita Cafe is primarily a vegetarian and vegan restaurant, serving local and organic products. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are on the menu and the restaurant is open 7 days a week. On this visit we tried the amazing Vegan nachos a huge portion consisting of tortilla chips topped with spicy beans, brown rice, black olives, salsa, guacamole and a vegan “cheese” sauce… delicious! The Vegan Club Sandwich also large enough for two people’s lunch and is made with organic tempeh as a fake bacon or ‘fakin’ as the menu calls it, homemade faux turkey, vegan mayo, guacamole, lettuce, and tomato between 3 layers of toasted sourdough bread this with the fries homemade fresh-cut fries made for a delicious and hearty meal. This place is kid friendly and a must try when in Portland! There are many, many other dining establishments I will blog about later.. but have to add for my 8 year old son, no visit to Portland is complete without a visit to VooDoo Doughnuts and the vast array of vegan donut offerings!
